What We Believe
Since we’re not a part of a denomination, it’s difficult to pin down what our church believes. We often like to say that we’re “Christians only, but not the only Christians!” If you’re looking for more specifics than that, please look below.
God the Father
God the Father is the Sovereign Creator of the universe who cares personally for mankind as a Heavenly Father. We believe that there is only one living and true God who reveals Himself to us in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. 2 Corinthians 13:14, Genesis 1:1, John 14:6
Jesus
Jesus is both the Messiah, the Son of the Living God, who died for our sins and rose from the dead; and the virgin-born Son of Man. Jesus who was without sin, died on a cross for our redemption. We believe that Jesus was raised, bodily, from death and that he ascended to heaven to intercede on our behalf. Philippians 2:5-8, John 1:1-2, Isaiah 7:14, Luke 1:34-35
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit dwells within each Christian as a comforter, counselor and encourager. He gives gifts for abundant living and assurance of eternal life. The Holy Spirit lives in believers and gives them the power to accomplish God’s work. The Holy Spirit also works in the hearts of those seeking God, leading them to a new and lasting life in Jesus Christ. John 15:26, John 16:8-11, Romans 12:3-8, Ephesians 4:7-16
The Bible
The Bible is God’s inspired Word and is the divine authority by which Christians are called to live. We believe that both the Old and New Testaments are inspired by God and are error-free in original text. 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Matthew 5:18
Man
Man, because of his personal sin, needs to be made whole and restored to fellowship with God through Jesus Christ. Romans 5:8-12
Salvation
Those who believe in Jesus Christ, God’s Son, our Savior- John 3:16, will: repent of their sins and continually make Jesus the Lord of their lives – Acts 3:19; confess Jesus as Lord, and be baptized, by immersion – Acts 2:38, Romans 6:3-7; and accept the gracious gift of salvation – Romans 6:23 by faith – Ephesians 2:8-9. Those who follow this Biblical plan can have assurance of this Salvation. 1 John 5:13
The Church
The Church is the body of Christ composed of all born again believers around the world. It is identified locally by ministering congregations such as Joppatowne Christian Church. Acts 2:38-42, Ephesians 4:4-6
The Lord’s Supper
The Lord’s Supper was instituted by the Lord and delivered to the Apostles – Matthew 26:26-29 and is to be observed by believers in remembrance of Him – 1 Corinthians 11:24-25.
